1. Etosha National Park Namibia
Etosha National Park is the most visited places in the country and is in the center of the Etosha salt pan. The Etosha salt pan stays dry except in summer when the water fills in briefly which is enough to get the blue green algae to grow which will attract lots and lots of flamingos. Most wildlife of the country including wild beast, antelope and zebras can be seen here in the pan, around the water holes. 2. Fish River Canyon Namibia
Fish River Canyon is the continent’s largest canyons and also the second largest canyon in the world, after the grand canyon of Arizona. The Fish River Canyon is absolute stunner and magnificent with its breathtaking immensity. The Fish River Canyon features a large Ravine which is of 160 km long and 27 km wide and in many places it goes to a depth of 550 meters. Due to the dam on Fish River, there is only small amount of running water in Fish River Canyon.
3. Cape Cross Namibia
Cape Cross is the third must see place in the country and it is located 120 km north to Swakopmund. Cape Cross houses one of the largest colonies of the Cape fur seals on the planet. All the surrounding area of Cape Cross is declared as a reserve in 1968 in order to protect the world’s biggest and best known colonies of cape Fur seals which only breed along the coastal areas of South Africa and Namibia. During the months November and December the breeding season starts and you can find around 1,50000 seals in one place. The name cape cross refers to large stone cross erected in the place in 15th century by Portuguese.
4. Sossusvlei Namibia
Although the place name’s a bit off, it is a gorgeous place. Located in the Namib Desert, this place is a huge clay pan which is surrounded by magnificent red sand dunes. The Tsauchab River flows through the Namib Desert and rare floods will come here which is the source for the vegetation in the clay soil. The colors of these sand dunes will change from sunrise to sunset, which offers some very photographic views. The desert winds also help in transforming the shape and texture of these sand dunes continuously providing you with an ever changing landscape.
5. Spitzkoppe Namibia
Spitzkoppe is also called as Matterhorn of Namibia. The place is filled with a group of bald granite peaks and is located in the Namib Desert. The highest peak of Spitzkoppe stands at a 700 m or 2300 feet high from the flat desert floor of Namib Desert. The Granite Massif was created by a giant volcanic eruption approximately 100 million years ago and the erosion exposed the volcanic rock. The main attraction of Spitzkoppe is the bizarre rock formations and Bushman painting which can found in several places.
6. Swakopmund Namibia
Swakopmund is the country’s biggest coastal town and is also a popular beach resort which is filled with locals and regional people in holiday season. The city was filled with beautiful and old German colonial buildings which will show off the German origins of the place. There is a striking contrast between the Namib Desert at the edge of the town and the German colonial buildings which is very photographic. You can go on a variety of adventures and activities like Sand boarding, horse riding and quad biking with all the sand and surf provided by the beaches of Swakopmund.
7. Skeleton Coast Namibia
Don’t be afraid, you won’t find any skeletons in this place. The name, Skeleton Coast came after the many violent and tragic ship wrecks occurred at this place. The Skeleton Coast is located in the north part of the Atlantic Ocean. The sea near this place is mostly filled with dense fogs and attracts storms and violent surfs which caused many ships to run aground the Skeleton Coast which is why the Skeleton Coast has become the world’s biggest ship graveyard. Even the shipwrecked who managed to swim to the coast should face the fearful desert climate conditions. The coast north of the Terrace bay is filled entirely with high sand dunes which are very attractive place.
8. Caprivi Strip Namibia
Caprivi Strip is a very narrow strip of land which lies between Botswana, Angola and Zambia and Okavango range to South, north and west respectively. The Caprivi Strip is the wettest areas of Namibia and is abundant in rainfalls which are why you can find rivers like Kwando, Zambezi and Okavango. There is an abundance of water here which is the source for many animals of the place including the elephants. The wildlife here is protected with the 4 reserves in the place however there are no fences here so the animals can happily roam between the neighboring countries.
9. Kolmanskop Namibia
Kolmanskop is Namib Desert’s ghost town which is located near by the port town, Luderitz. In 1908, there were many German’s in the place for the diamond hunt and these diamond miners built their residences in Kolmanskop in German architectural styles. You can find all amenities in the place including hospital, school, ballroom and casino. Africa’s first tram was located here. The diamond fields slowly exhausted and finally the place was abandoned in 1954.
10. Twyfelfontein Namibia
Twyfelfontein is the last place in our list, but it is still beautiful and contains large concentrations of rock engravings. Most of these are 6000 years old and were by Bushmen. The carvings are on Sandstones and they represent different animals like Ostriches, Giraffes, Rhinos and elephants along with human and animal footprints.
